The 25th annual Calgary Stampede Aggie Days, presented by EnCana is a celebration of agriculture, its connection to our environment, and its impact on our daily lives. The Aggie Days Family Fun Days are held Saturday, March 20 and Sunday, March 21 in the BMO Center at Stampede Park.
This weekend gives families a fun opportunity to experience agriculture firsthand, offering a cornucopia of interactive displays, activities, entertainment, and demonstrations such as cow milking, sheep shearing, and offering free wagon rides on Saturday. Put a rural rush into your weekend . . . there’s something for everyone at Aggie Days!

Animal Exhibits
It just wouldn’t be Aggie Days without a wide assortment of live displays showcasing the animals that make up Alberta’s diverse agriculture industry. You’ll find presentations on everything from cow milking to sheep shearing to various members of the equine family, including light horses, ponies, miniature horses and miniature donkeys. Find out more about the llama, wool and lamb, and honey industries, and check out displays of newly hatched chicks and a proud sow with her litter. The beef cattle industry — a dominant player on the provincial agriculture scene, with 40 per cent of the Canadian beef herd based in Alberta — will be putting on its own display, including cow/calf, heifer, steer, and bull. And don’t forget the raw horsepower of the heavy horse display where you can test your own pulling strength with the Incredi-Pull.
Canola Learning Centre
Who’d have thought so much could come out of those tiny canola seeds? Did you know that one bushel of canola can produce up to 10 litres of healthy canola oil? Or that canola oil can be used in the creation of lipstick, soap, biodiesel, printing inks, and de-icing agents? Make sure to visit this year’s Canola Learning Centre at Aggie Days, where you can make your own canola seed strips to be crushed into canola oil. You can also pick up a free Kids in the Kitchen brochure, and find out why canola oil makes the ideal French fry. Visit the Canadian International Grains Institute (CIGI) biodiesel trailer, which is used for training in the manufacture of biodiesel from canola and other oil sources. And, as a special treat, the first 500 kids on Saturday, March 20 and Sunday, March 21 will make play dough using canola oil.
Seed Survivor
Do you have the smarts to outwit, outgrow, and outlive the competition? Find out by taking the Seed Survivor challenge! Agrium’s Seed Survivor, which will make an appearance at Aggie Days, is a six-part interactive educational display that helps children play, learn, and explore plant growth. By discovering the roles that light, water, soil, and nutrients play in the growth process, children can begin to understand how healthy plants mean healthy food for us all.
